Do You Wonder if Social Media is a Myth?

The reason I ask is that this is what this local contractor I met today thinks. He has two web sites, a Fan page and a Twitter account, but as far as he can tell the only marketing effort that is working for him is one friend who consistently refers others to him.

This is a mistake many small businesses make. They hear they need to have a web site or a Fan page and they spend the money to make this happen, but they don’t really know:
a) what they want to achieve with these sites or
b) how best to achieve their goals.

They’re left feeling frustrated and worse, they begin to question the ability of these tools to really deliver.

So, I’m curious. How many of you feel the same way about Social Media? Is it working for you? If so, please feel free to share your experiences below. I’d love to hear which social media is or isn’t working for you and your businesses.
